Jason Hull Creates Vintage Illuminating Comfort in the Dark
If there is one thing that has really lodged itself into the hearts of many this year and the last, it would definitely be retro cameras and vintage photography; Jason Hull provides yet another example of why this is the case. He has cleverly converted old flash cameras into hipster nightlights. Instead of littering one’s house of kiddy products, Jason Hull provides a great alternative.

Based in Oakland, California, Jason Hull scours flea markets and garage sales for these retro film cameras. From there, he pares them down in order to not only focus on the flash part, but to also create nightlights that are more lightweight so that it does do any damage to sockets. Jason Hull then adds a plug-in and different types of lights.

The Leica X1 BMW Edition is High-End Camera Gear
The Leica X1 BMW Edition is a prime example of why some may equate the label to “luxury photography.” This camera has an awesome retro-inspired metal body but with all the current technological functionality. The BMW branding is subtly added through a small engraved logo.

This luxury camera also comes with a superb leather case and leather strap that are also very luxurious. With only 600 of these models in circulation, the Leica X1 BMW Edition is the perfect camera for the posh photographer.

With Hiroshi Fujiwara being such a big Leica fan, this upcoming collaboration between his brand uniform experiment and the German high end camera maker comes with no surprise. The D-Lux 5 comes as a special uniform experiment edition, featuring a few logo placements on the upper, as well as a matching leather camera case, also featuring embossed logo placements. The camera is supposed to release in Japan on May 11th, limited to 200 pieces.

The LEGO Leica M8 is a Playful Replica for Only a Fraction of the Cost
If I could get my hands on the LEGO Leica M8 replica, I would not only own one of the most recognizable cameras in the world, but I would also stand apart from the crowd as well. Of course, the quality wouldn’t match a real Leica M8.

Created by MOCPages user Schfio Factory, the LEGO Leica M8 was fashioned from a $50 LEGO camera kit. A perfect gift for a child aspiring to be a photographer, it might not hold up for those who are really serious about photography.

The Papercraft Leica Cam is Delicate Yet Usable
The Papercraft Leica camera was designed by photographer Matthew Nicholson.

This carefully constructed camera is part of Nicholson’s 2011 series called ‘Making the Desirable Accessible Through an A4 Printer.’ The Papercraft Leica is the most unique piece though, as it is constructed to look exactly like the Leica model M3. Matthew Nicholson’s finished product actually works as a film camera.

Matthew Nicholson’s Papercraft Leica template will be available for download at the end of June, along with a tutorial on how to construct and work the cleverly designed piece. The Papercraft Leica is truly a great tribute to the infamous camera brand and shows that with careful construction, something extraordinary can be made from paper and 35mm film.

The Leica i9 is Designed for iPhone Shutterbugs
Apple and luxury camera maker Leica have joined forces, thanks to the imaginative minds over at Black Design Associates who have created the Leica i9. The Leica i9 is a conceptual camera case for the iPhone that both protects the iPhone from damage and enhances the quality of its pictures.

The Leica i9 would instantly improve iPhone photos by adding a “compact optical zoom, dedicated aperture and shutter dials, flash and light meter.” This case would be great for the mass amount of iPhone shutterbugs who feel the need to clog the Internet with their five megapixel pieces of art. The Leica i9 is still just a concept, but here’s hoping that Leica or Apple or both pick up on this and make it a reality.

Leica + Hermes
From $14,000 Cameras to Car-Branded Luxury DSLRs
When I think of luxury cameras, I can’t help but think of Leica. The German camera company has a knack for creating high-priced cameras that stun the senses with their unique and elegant designs, while simultaneously blowing the mind of the person who could never dream of dropping more than a couple hundred bucks on a camera.

Leica may be the only company bold enough to sell a Hermes-branded M7 for $14,000. If you are looking for something retro-chic (and potentially hipster), there’s always the 1923 Leica that sold for an astounding $500,000 plus at auction. This top list is dedicated to all of the luxurious Leicas that make us go “ohh” and “ahh” when we see them and “argh” when we find out the price.
